Worcester Fellowship

Together In Community

Worcester fellowship is dedicated to ending isolation ~ through spiritual care and community ~ for those living in poverty, both those presently with and without homes.

We are an outdoor church, meeting at 1pm every Sunday behind Worcester City Hall. Join us any Sunday, or schedule a date for a group to join us.

Our greatest need right now is for volunteers to make 30 sandwiches for lunch after Sunday worship. (See other ways to help below)

Contact the Reverend Liz Magill at 508-450-0431 or email pastorliz@verizon.net. Look us up at www.worcesterfellowship.org.

Volunteer Opportunities for Adults, Youth and Families

We need your time and effort.

Make Sunday Lunches. Families, individuals, small groups, any of these can volunteer to make 30 sandwiches (15 meat, 15 PB&J) and donate 30 juice boxes once a month.

Provide Spiritual Care: If you are comfortable listening to rambling stories, sitting in the cold, and sharing public prayer, we could use your help offering spiritual care Sundays from 12-4, or on a weekday afternoon. We will provide training and feedback, we always work in teams.

Jeremiah's Inn

Our primary mission is a social model recovery home for men who are trying to break the cycle of addiction to alcohol and other drugs.   We have 28 beds.  We also have a food pantry that serves area residents.  We serve between 400 to 500 families and individuals each month representing more than 1,000 individuals served. Nearly half of the beneficiaries are children under 18.

We are located at the corner of Main and Cambridge Streets in Worcester , 1059 Main Street , Worcester , MA 01603 . Phone: 508-755-6403.

Volunteer Opportunities for Adults, Youth and Families

We have ongoing need of providers of hot meals for our residents.  We serve 28-30 residents each evening at 5:00 p.m.   We have a full restaurant-style kitchen.  We have a number of school, church and business groups that provide meals.  The need for meal providers is greater in the summer when people are on vacation and students are away from school.  Anyone interested in helping in this capacity should call to schedule a day to cook.

We also have an Adopt-A-Room program where individuals or groups upgrade one of our resident rooms by painting, possibly replacing carpeting and furniture.

All inquiries should be directed to us at 508-755-6403.  Meals can be scheduled with the administrative assistant.   Large food donations should be coordinated with Shelia.  Pantry volunteers should be scheduled with Shelia as well.   Our pantry operates Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. with the exception of Thursdays when we open at 11 a.m. and close at 2 p.m.   We go to the Worcester County Food Bank on Thursday mornings to pick up our food for the week.  (Sometimes we do have a need for a truck to respond on short notice to help us bring the food back to the Inn when our scheduled truck can't make the run.) All other inquires could come to Walter.

Financial/Material Support

In-kind donations:
We can always use bed linens for twin beds, pillows, personal care items that cannot be purchased with food stamps, and non-perishable food items. We always accept donations of non-perishable food items.  Again, this need increases during late Spring and through the summer.  Keep in mind that people are hungry year-round and Thanksgiving Day should be every day.

Financial donations:
Financial donations are used in a multitude of areas.  We have to replace two bathroom floors that are developing cracks in the tiles.  This summer we hope to be able to repave our driveway and parking lot to eliminate some potholes and adjust the drainage of the small lake that forms after a rain or snow melt.

We would like to be able to replace some of the doors in the rooms and re-key all of the locks with a master key mechanism.  Our wish list also includes a video monitoring system of the exits and storage areas.  Another long-term dream is to have another building where men complete the program and are having difficulty finding housing could live and still maintain a connection to the Inn .

From time to time certain acute needs arise.  There's always something!
