Worcester’s neighborhoods are stronger and more stable than they were two decades ago thanks to the efforts of residents and neighborhood groups, community development corporations, colleges, public officials, bankers and business leaders, philanthropic foundations, and religious institutions. The foreclosure crisis threatens to unravel this progress, however, and requires the urgent attention of all who care about the city’s future. This briefing will describe recent developments in federal and state policy, provide a snapshot of challenges faced by Worcester, and detail local efforts to respond to the problem that are proving to be effective.
