| The annual urban immersion for UCC confirmation classes and youth groups draws over 100 participants every year. The program introduces students to the social ministry of the wider church through a look at mission challenges and opportunities in Worcester .
The program consists of two parts:
- 1) On a Wednesday evening, participants gather at local church for a pizza supper. The program includes experiential activities and presentations that look at economic disparities, the struggle of the working poor, and some of the ways WAMS and Central Association churches are responding to these challenges.
- On a Saturday morning, the group tours Worcester-based programs with a WAMS connection. These include Jeremiah's Inn , a transitional shelter program for men, and AIDS Project Worcester. Staff and clients share their perspectives. The morning concludes with lunch at Aldersgate United Methodist Church which conducts a vital outreach program to youth and seniors in the Main South area.
Learning together, youth enjoy connecting with peers who share similar values and faith commitments. The program also identifies service opportunities for them to pursue following the immersion.
